Mary was a woman of curiosity. If she had been a cat…well you know the saying.
The now elderly woman had always had a big dream in life: to become a zookeeper. Interacting with and training animals was something that had always spoken to the woman’s heart. After years and years, she began to accept that dream might never come true. That’s when her luck changed.
Mary had recently visited the Columbian Park Zoo in her hometown of Lafayette, Indiana thanks to a field trip held by the Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, the woman’s senior living center. What was her favorite part of the trip? The exotic creatures.
Once the zoo heard about Mary’s life-long dream, they were on board to provide her with the ‘bucket list’ experience she’d always wanted. Mary would become a zookeeper for a day. She was thrilled at the thought of fulfilling her life-long dream.
The woman’s duties included weighing lizards, oiling a tortoise shell, feeding snakes, and cuddling Rosetta the armadillo. The staff at Columbian Park Zoo was infatuated with Mary, to say the least. To thank the woman for her help, the staff signed a heartfelt card reminding her she was welcome back anytime.
