On October 4, 10-year-old Anylah Thompson showed us all once again how miraculous and brave children can be. While in the car with her 5-year-old and 7-year-old siblings, Anylah watched as her mother began having a seizure behind the wheel. But instead of simply watching as the car crashed, she decided she would save herself and her family by putting the car in park. When the car came to a stop, she then called 9-1-1 and waited for help to arrive.
It is well known that anything can happen behind the wheel of a car. Cars can be extremely dangerous, with car crashes causing close to 1.3 million deaths every year. That breaks down to almost 3,500 deaths per day due to accidents. With those kinds of statistics, it’s even more terrifying to think about a medical emergency occurring behind the wheel of a car! It is also well known that during a seizure, a person becomes unresponsive due to electrical communication interruption in the brain. Even if they do not have convulsions, they cannot respond to their environment. So for this to have happened behind the wheel… could have been a terrible thing to happen to this family.
With all of this in mind, everyone was very shocked, to say the least, when they found out what had happened behind the wheel of the car. The mother is going to make a full recovery, and none of those in the car were injured, as well as no one on the road. This could be a great lesson to families – we need to teach our children how to respond to critical situations, and to be safe in case something does ever happen.
This is truly a miracle story, with the bravery and quick thinking of one little girl saving the day!
Way to go, Anylah, we are so glad you saved the day!
