An officer spots a woman in need on the side of the road. The good samaritan makes a point to make her day.
Massachusetts State Tropper, Luke Bonin, had a court date to attend one morning. On his way home, the man noticed a woman standing in the tall grass on the side of the road. She was holding a sign asking for charity.
Luke kept driving, with plans to circle back with a picnic lunch. After visiting a local drive-thru, he returned to the spot. Assuming he was there to ask her to leave, she stands up and assures him she was planning on going anyway.
“I’m not here to kick you out,” the officer said.
Luke offers the woman some company and the pick between the two lunches. Staying to chat, the patrolman learns she is a struggling mother of four that had struck some bad luck recently. The small simple gesture made her day.
The humble man needed no recognition for his good deed. However, a passerby thought opposite and snapped a photo that went viral. After the Massachusetts State Police get wind of the story, they recognize the good samaritan on the station’s Facebook page.
“Yes, Trooper Bonin, we know you do not want or expect publicity, we know you didn’t want to be noticed, but you were, and the job is proud of you. We commend you for your selfless act, and for ‘doing the right thing’ for someone less fortunate than most people.”
