Exploring the beautiful wooded areas of Ontario, Canada, she stumbled upon a rundown and disheveled house. What she found inside left her awestruck.
Leslie David, a professional photographer, was inspired by nature and aged architecture. As a resident of Ontario, Canada, the woman didn’t have to go far to stumble upon picturesque, lush landscapes.
Looking to discover other scenic backdrops, Leslie voyaged into new wooded territory. She stopped in her tracks after spotting a mysterious structure hiding in the shadows.
Buried deep in year’s worth of vines and moss stood an old home. A caving roof, a neglected yard, and rotted siding made it clear the house had been vacant for years.
Leslie ventured inside, certain there was more to be seen. Just minutes after entering the abandoned home, the young woman received the shock of a lifetime. Lawrence, the elderly owner of the home, was staring right back at her. After a brief conversation in the living room, the man explained to the photographer he still lived in the house.
Leslie described meeting him for the first time in an emotional post on her website.
“He has a hard time getting around so he spends most of his time in there. Alone…Even after noticing a stranger essentially helping themselves to his life he was nothing but sweet and kind to me…which I will always treasure. He is a beautiful soul and I plan on visiting him a lot.”
Leslie kept her promise and continued to visit Lawrence on a regular basis. Their relationship transformed into a beautiful friendship. Short visits became long dinners, small talk turned into an exchange of life-altering stories. Lawrence eventually explained he lost touch with friends and family over the years. All he had left was the house.
Nearly completely blind as the victim of a stroke, Lawrence no longer had the brightest outlook on life. He marked the day Leslie first stopped by as “one of the best days of his life.”
Understanding Lawrence didn’t have long to live, the kindhearted woman ensured his last memories were full of happiness and love. Leslie decided to restore his beloved home to its former glory, bringing him the ultimate joy.
Volunteers started renovations. Lawrence’s house, the last remaining element of his life, finally received the attention and recognition it deserved. After a deep clean and some much needed lawn care, the once abandoned home wasn’t even recognizable.
As time went on, Lawrence’s health slowly declined. After he wasn’t able to care for himself, Leslie lended a helping hand.
The photographer and Lawrence picked a suitable retirement home, one he felt comfortable in. Leslie always remembered to bring his favorite foods and beloved dog to their frequent and friendly visits.
“I’m posting this picture in hopes that it will inspire at least one person to reach out to someone they may have lost contact with or perhaps just forgot about,” Leslie wrote on her website. “These old souls are still full of life and I feel blessed to have met this one.”
