Jimmy and Annette Alvarez are a loving couple that built a beautiful family over the years. Grandparents and great-grandparents of 37, the pair have a special place in their hearts for children. What they would soon discover changed their lives forever.
The couple were relaxing in their apartment when they heard horrific cries for help. Immediately, the two ran outside. Across the parking lot, next to the dumpster, they found a man motioning for help. He explained he had been rummaging through the trash. What he discovered was horrendous…
In between old mail, garbage bags, and cardboard was a newborn baby girl, still attached to the umbilical cord. Everyone was stunned. Immediately, Jimmy picked up the child, wrapped his shirt around her, and checked for a heartbeat.
“She was cold and she wasn’t really moving, but as soon as I was rubbing her…she gasped for air and cried,” he explains.
“I think she was going to die if we had not found her,” Annette adds.
The mother of the child was eventually located after local authorities were called. Shockingly, she was only 13 years old. She confirmed she had indeed given birth only hours before the baby was found. Both mom and baby received medical attention before the little girl was handed over to social services.
Extremely moved by the experience, Jimmy and Annette begin the process of adopting the little girl. They already have a name picked out: Milagro, miracle in Spanish.
“You know, if you would have held her, you wouldn’t want to let her go her,” Annette says.
