Drunk driving can have absolutely devastating consequences. Which is why it’s so incredible that this bar is taking actions towards encouraging people to not drink and drive – even if that means leaving their car in the parking lot for a couple days.
Paula Grzelak – Schultz had been drinking at Original Joe’s in Alberta, when she realized that she was too intoxicated to get home. Instead of trying to drive herself, she found a way to get home without driving her car, leaving it in the parking lot for a few days until she could come back and get it.
When she arrived back at her car a few days later, she noticed right off the bat that there was something stuck in her windshield. Nervous that it was a ticket, she approached the car slowly, but was greatly surprised when she got to her car!
The note was from the bar itself, written by the manager of the bar, thanking her for not driving herself home and leaving her car in the parking lot! The note came from Jay McLean, a managing partner of Original Joe’s, and said the following:
“Just wanted to thank you for leaving your car parked overnight. I’m not sure if you had consumed alcohol at our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not drinking and driving. Enclosed is a voucher for 1 lb of our delicious chicken wings. Please accept this as a thank you for being responsible. Life is valuable, have a great weekend.”
So not only did the manager/owner thank her for not driving intoxicated, he gave her a free pound of chicken! I mean, if that’s not an awesome incentive to not drive drunk, I really don’t know what is.
Maybe this can catch on around the world’s bars, encouraging and giving rewards to those who make the better right choice, instead of risking it and potentially hurting someone else or themselves. We can all hope, right?
