Many times, cops happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But there are just as many times that they are in the right place at the right time, and can make a difference in a person’s life forever, marking themselves a hero.
Roger Garcia and Sam Rodriguez were just going about their normal business as deputy police officers for the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department in New Mexico. As soon as they saw a car start swerving as it was going down the road, they decided to stop it because it appeared that the driver could possibly be under the influence of alcohol. They weren’t expecting what they found.
When they pulled the man over, they found that the man was indeed drunk. But he also had three children with him in the car! The children were all young – 5 years old, 2 years old, and 2 months old. All of the children appeared frightened, and the 2 month old was found to not even be buckled into her car seat!
The poor children were removed from the vehicle as the father was arrested. That was when the story took an even more depressing turn. The kids told the police officers they were hungry. Who knows when the last time the poor babies had eaten! The police officers knew at that moment that they needed to take care of the children. They quickly phoned for backup, asking some other officers to take the two older children to get something to eat (they went to McDonald’s), as Garcia and Rodriguez prepared a bottle of formula for the 2 month old, using only a flashlight and a car heater to warm the bottle.

After feeding the baby and making sure she was warm, Garcia even changed the baby’s diaper! How sweet. Garcia said that he had always baby sat growing up, but he never thought he would be babysitting with a gun on his belt in the front seat of a patrol car.
Well regardless of where he was, Garcia definitely made an impression on his community and the lives of those children as he did whatever he could to help them! Watch the touching video below.
