After heartbreaking news that one of their babies hadn’t survived, a couple celebrate the miracle of life.
First-time parents, Kate and David Ogg, were thrilled to learn they were expecting a baby. After years of trying to conceive, their wish had finally been granted. Once the Australian couple learned they should prepare for twins, their hearts flooded with joy and anticipation.
At 26 weeks, barely halfway through her pregnancy, Kate unexpectedyly went into premature labor. After a difficult delivery, the mom gave birth to a beautiful son and daughter. Kate suspected something was wrong almost immediately. Her daughter had let out loud cries and a scream. Her son had made no noise at all.
“We looked over and everyone was crowding around [him], there was about 20 people in the room,” Kate says.
Moments later, the new mom was devastated by what doctors told her. One of her children, her son, had stopped breathing. After failed attempts at resuscitation, the infant hadn’t survived. He was declared dead only 20 minutes after his birth.
Unable to accept the horrific news, Kate requested to hold her son at least once. Doctors obliged the grieving mother and placed the baby’s lifeless body in her arms. David and his wife began to say their goodbyes to their son, who they had planned on naming Jamie…or so they thought.
“We were trying to entice him to stay. We explained his name and that he had a twin that he had to look out for and how hard we tried to have him,” Kate explained.
What happened next truly was a medical miracle. After being placed in his parents’ arms, the newborn was brought back to life. He began to gasp for air. After hospital staff tended to the baby, he began to gain his color back and his breathing was stabilized.
Kate and David remember the moment they thought they had lost a child. The couple is thankful they were able to bring both their children home from the hospital. At 5-years-old, Jamie and his twin sister Emily, are about to start kindergarten. The family is gloriously happy and living the life they always imagined.
